This may surprise you given the business I’m in, but I don’t know a whole lot about Cricket. I can’t name many players or the more obscure rules. But I know enough to know it’s lit.
Cricket is similar enough to Baseball to be accessible for a new fan, but with the pace and excitement of Basketball. I first got interested in the sport when I came across the youtube highlights of the championship game for the first season of Major League Cricket. When they panned to the crowd, I was blown away by the passion and exuberance of the fans. You would have thought they were college kids at their school’s rivalry Football game. But these fans were cheering on brand new teams that don’t even have home stadiums, and in a sport that most people don’t think is popular in the United States. I dug deeper, and learned so much more about the sport and these fans. I decided to build these incredible fans a place to cheer on teams in a communal environment.
So at Sticky Wicket, We Got Cricket! We have a commercial broadcasting license that includes Willow HD, Willow Extra, Fox Soccer Plus, and ESPN+. So one TV will always have Cricket on. But since there’s some overlap in sports fandom, and an international sports schedule with games of varying degrees of interest, we’ll have some Rugby, Soccer, and Aussie Rules Football for you too as we aim to be America’s home for foreign sports.
So get out of the house, come with old friends, meet some new ones, have some drinks, maybe a bite, and cheer on your team together!
